Bio

Jesus Antoshka received a bachelors in Fine Art with a minor in Ceramics from Dowling College and has been working in clay ever since. For the past decade, he has held positions at a variety of different institutions including but not limited to: Dowling College, Suffolk County Community College, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Clay Art Guild of the Hamptons, and most recently, Long Island Art League.

His skillset ranges from wheel throwing & studio management to glaze chemistry & kiln firings. Most recently, Jesus founded Clayform, a small business offering private intermediate-level ceramic classes, which he hopes to expand into a storefront in the near future.

In his personal body of ceramic work, Jesus aims to create utilitarian ware with a focus in form, proportion, and scale.

Artist Statement

Overall, I want my work to give society a reason to bring handmade objects into their homes during a time when there is so much emphasis placed on speedy production and mass quantities. In a sense, pottery almost forces people to slow down and appreciate the craft while also putting the work to good use. Instead of observing my work from afar, people get to actually utilize and interact with it, which I highly encourage. My pieces are made to be used in the home and on the table -- to drink your coffee out of, to serve your dinner guests with -- whatever use you see fit!
